Large Format Poster Printing -Sending A File

Order online - it's fast, easy and secure!

Maximum file size is 150 MB. Our online ordering works best with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

-or-

Send us an E-mail with the file(s) attached. This works well for PC and Mac files. When sending mac fonts, they need to be Stuffed or Zipped. Send your email to: orders@megaprint.com

Many e-mail systems limit the size of file attachments (Hotmail is 10 MB, Gmail and Yahoo are 25mb). If you get an error, try ordering online.

YouSendit and Cutesendit are two sites that can be used to send us large files. They are free for files up to 100 mb, and have a nominal charge for up to 2 GB. Follow the instructions on their site, using the orders email above as the destination email.

If you e-mail or FTP your order, here's the information we will need with your file:

  • Size and number of prints of each file
  • Mounting and/or laminating desired, velcro, etc.
  • Shipping information; person, address & phone number (no PO Boxes for Fedex)
  • Visa/MC/Amex number or PO (with credit approval). Call us with your CC number, we do not suggest you put it in an email.

For really large files, please go to our FTP site ftp.megaprint.com and log in with the username and password we give you, you will need to call us on 800-590-7850.

Once you are logged into the FTP site, drag and drop your files into the window. You can use copy and paste if you prefer.

Internet Explorer 7 and 8 on the PC will allow you to upload files to our FTP site, go to ftp.megaprint.com, and then go to Page on the toolbar and scroll down to "open ftp site in Windows Explorer". Use the username and password we give you to log in, and then drag and drop your files in.

Be patient, it takes about ten seconds for the site to handshake with you.

To do FTP transfer using a Mac, you will need an FTP program. We suggest using Fetch, which you can find at www.fetchsoftworks.com. A single user license is $25, it has a 15 day free trial. An FTP program is also helpful for the PC if you are doing a lot of file transfer. A good one for the PC is Cute FTP available at www.cuteftp.com/download/cuteftp.shtml. It costs $40 to register, there's a lite version for $25, and it also has a free trial.

PLEASE send us an email or call to let us know what to do with these files if you post them to the ftp site. This site will only let you add the file, it is not an e-mail address.

If you have several files to send, we suggest you ZIP them together ("Stuff-It" on the Mac) into a single file, it's faster for us both. Zipping larger files is always appreciated! If you have any trouble transmitting files, give us a call.

If you prefer to send us electronic media, we support flash drives, ZIP 100, 250 or 750, CD, or DVD.

A word about proportions: Height and width of your original file must be proportional to the height and width of the finished poster size. Download an excel print sizer or see the chart below.

Original Common Poster Sizes
8.5 x 11 28 x 36
8.64 x 11 22 x 28
7.32 x 11 24 x 36
8.25 x 11 18 x 24 -or- 36 x 48
11 x 14 22 x 28
9 x 12 36 x 48 -or- 24 x 18
7.5 x 10 15 x 20 -or- 30 x 40

Fonts- We have the fonts that are supplied with the listed programs. If you have a font you bought elsewhere, send the font file along with your program file. It is a big help if you convert your fonts to curves in the programs like Corel, Illustrator, and Freehand.

Photos- Scanned in photos should be 72-100 dpi in their final size. This is about 2-4 mb of uncompressed .tif per square foot of final size. If, for example, you are scanning a 3"X5" photo that will be 6"X10" on your poster, scan at 200 dpi. to have a 100 dpi image when printed.

A word about digital photographs- the standard 480x640 pixel digital picture should not be any larger than about 8x10" on your poster. Megapixel digital pictures can go quite a bit larger, the rule of thumb is we like to see them at 72 dpi in the actual size. To have an image that's 10x20 and 72 dpi, we need 720x1440 pixels. If it's 700x1400, you won't notice a difference, but if it's 200x400, it will be awful! Pictures of insufficient density are the biggest problem we face.
